Massachusetts State Police have made an arrest after an incident on the highway on Wednesday morning.

According to Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 1:15 a.m., the Andover Barracks received multiple reports of a dark colored vehicle stopped in the middle lane of Interstate 495 south in Lowell. When Troopers responded to the scene, they found the operator sleeping.

Suddenly and without warning during the police response, the operator awoke and sped off to evade police. Troopers observed the operator reach speeds of approximately 100 mph as he continued on Interstate 495 south.

Troopers successfully deployed Star Chase and a stinger designed to deflate all four tires. After the deflation, the vehicle continued on Interstate 495 South into Bolton at speeds between 34-45 mph.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., the vehicle came to a complete stop and Troopers took the operator into custody without further incident or damage to any vehicles.

The operator was identified as Kristopher Cole, 29, of Newburyport. He was charged with failure to stop, operating under the influence of alcohol, and possession of ammunition without an FID. He is expected to be arraigned today in Lawrence District Court.
