Massachusetts State Police, local police, arrest four men concerning break-in including one in tree
Four Massachusetts men were arrested, including one that fled by climbing a tree, after an early morning store break-in.
On Friday, at approximately 2 a.m. officers with the Worcester Police Department were dispatched to 1114 Pleasant Street (Shoe Supply) for a report of an active commercial break. Multiple units responded to the call. As officers arrived on scene, the suspects dispersed from the location.
According to Worcester Police, officers apprehended one male on Santander Property located at 1125 Pleasant Street. The man was identified as 18-year-old Raffy Santos.
Santos of Lawrence was charged with break and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony, vandalism (joint venture) trespass and larceny from a building.
Officer located two other men at Tatnuck Jewelers located at 617 Mill Street. The property was closed and there are posted signs that read “no trespassing”. The men were identified as a 20-year-old with the last name of Cruz and 20-year-old Jorge German.
Cruz, of Lawrence, was charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony, vandalism, larceny from a building and trespassing.
German, also of Lawrence, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony, vandalism, larceny from a building and trespassing.
The other suspect, 24-year-old Yorbis Peguero fled in a vehicle and was apprehended by Massachusetts State Police.
According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, Peguero fled the scene of the robbery in a 2010 Mercedes-Benz E350 sedan. Worcester Police observed the suspect fleeing the scene and pursued, with Troopers in a secondary position behind Worcester officers. When the suspect vehicle entered Route 146 southbound, Troopers assumed the primary position in the pursuit.
The pursuit continued onto the Massachusetts Turnpike eastbound, where it continued for approximately 20 miles before the suspect vehicle struck a Stinger tire deflation device put down in its path in Southborough by Troopers ahead of the pursuit route. Upon hitting the spike device, the suspect vehicle became disabled and crashed into the wood line. Peguero, the only occupant of the vehicle, got out and ran into the woods.
MSP patrols and K-9 teams, along with local officers, established a perimeter and began a search. State Police Air 4, a helicopter from the MSP Air Wing crewed by Sgt. Gregg Spooner and Troopers Joshua Pacheco and Mason Oliveira, launched and joined the search. The flight crew established ongoing communication with ground units and conducted an aerial search utilizing, among other equipment, the aircraft’s Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) camera.
At approximately 4:20 a.m., MSP Air 4’s crew located Peguero hiding in a large tree, some 25-30 feet off the ground, in the backyard of a home on Cordaville Road in Southborough. The flight crew directed patrols and a K9 team on the ground to the tree, and Troopers and Southborough Officers commanded the suspect to come down. The suspect complied and was taken into custody and transferred to Worcester Police for the investigation into the commercial breaking and entering.
Peguero of Mattapan was charged with willful and malicious destruction of property, B&E during the nighttime to commit a felony, larceny from a building and a fugitive from justice on court warrant.
During the investigation, police learned that the suspects shattered the lock on the business and made entry. The suspects stole merchandise from the business and placed the items in a vehicle that was parked outside the business.
Surveillance evidence was also used during the investigation. Stolen items were recovered by police. Police stated that the investigation is ongoing.
