A serious crash occurred Sunday evening on I-195.
According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, preliminary investigation into the crash reveals that a 2019 Chevy Silverado pickup was traveling east on Route 195 in Seekonk at approximately 8 p.m. Upon passing Exit 1 the pickup truck, which was traveling in the middle lane, encountered slowing traffic ahead as a result of a car fire approximately one mile down the road.
The operator applied emergency braking and collided into the rear of a 2001 Chrysler 300. The Chrysler was pushed into the rear of a 2005 Acura TSX which was then pushed into the rear of a 2017 Lexus NX.
The belted, right rear passenger of the Chrysler was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced deceased soon after her arrival. The two additional occupants of the Chrysler, the two occupants of the Silverado and the four occupants of the Acura were all transported by EMS to area hospitals with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening. The operator of the Lexus was not injured the collision.
Information about the victims have yet to be released.
