Massachusetts State Police are investigating after two incidents resulted in a woman’s death

According to Massachusetts State Police, at just before 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, Massachusetts State Police Troopers responded to a crash involving two vehicles on Route 3 northbound in Braintree that resulted in the death of a Roxbury woman.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2013 Toyota Rav4 was northbound on Route 3 near the 40.2 mile-marker in Braintree. The Rav4 struck a deer and came to a stop in the right lane to assess damage to the vehicle. The driver and a passenger had exited and were on foot when a Jaguar F-PACE SUV travelling in the right lane swerved into the breakdown lane to avoid striking the Rav4. The SUV struck the passenger of the Rav4 in the breakdown lane.

The driver of the Rav4, a 63-year-old Roxbury man, was transported to an area medical facility via ambulance. The passenger of the Rav4, a 35-year-old Roxbury woman, was also transported suffering serious injuries. The woman was pronounced deceased after arriving to the hospital.

The center and right travel lanes of Route 3 were closed for nearly three and a half hours. Traffic was able to pass in the left lane, while analysis and cleanup took place.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were assisted by Braintree PD, Braintree Fire and EMS, and MassDOT.
