Multiple vehicles were hit by a wrong-way driver that left multiple injures.

According to Dave Procopio of the Massachusetts State Police, just after 5:00 a.m. today, an MSP cruiser and a contractor’s truck were hit by an impaired, wrong-way driver at a road construction detail on Route 3 southbound in Braintree.

Subsequent investigation by responding Troopers determined that the wrong-way driver, Christopher Fay, 24, of Abington, was operating under the influence of alcohol.

Fay, who was driving a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee, suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to South Shore Hospital. He is expected to be released from the hospital today.

The Trooper, a male, was not injured when his cruiser, a 2013 Ford Interceptor utility, was struck. However, a 53-year-old Stoughton man employed by the road contractor was injured when a work truck, a Chevrolet 4500 flatbed, was struck. The worker was transported to South Shore Hospital with minor injuries.

Fay is being charged with Operating under the influence of liquor, Negligent operation, Having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, and Wrong way violation.

The scene was cleared at 7:37 a.m.
