Massachusetts State Police, Berkley and Freetown Fire Departments responded Sunday to a fiery highway crash with a fuel leak.

According to an announcement by the fire department, at 6:40 a.m., Berkley’s communications center received multiple 911 calls for a motor vehicle accident on Route 24 South near mile marker 15 with one vehicle on fire.

Berkley Fire crews arrived on scene to find a passenger vehicle off the road engulfed in flames and a tractor trailer unit in the breakdown lane with a leaking diesel fuel tank as a result of the collision with the passenger vehicle.

With the assistance of Freetown Fire, crews were able to extinguish the vehicle fire and simultaneously mitigate the fuel leak.

The occupants of both vehicles were uninjured and refused on scene medical care.

Berkley Fire units remained on scene for approximately 3 hours while the fuel spill was remedied by environmental cleanup crews and the tractor trailer unit was removed.
