Massachusetts State Police announce shutdown of Route 24 in Freetown

UPDATE: Route 24 North has reopened

A local highway has been closed, according to authorities.

The Massachusetts State Police has notified Freetown Police that Route 24 North is shut down between Exit 11 (South Main Street) and Exit 13 (North Main Street).

Traffic is being diverted off Route 24 North at Exit 11 (South Main Street). Expect heavy traffic congestion along South Main Street, through the Assonet Four Corners, and North Main Street until Route 24 reopens.

Witnesses are reporting that a tractor trailer dropped its load.

Please seek alternate routes and use caution in the area. We will provide updates as they become available.
