Massachusetts State Police announce identity of man killed clearing snow from vehicle on highway
A pedestrian was fatally struck by a tractor-trailer in Massachusetts while clearing snow from his vehicle on Monday night.
According to Massachusetts State Police and WCVB the man was struck on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Hopkinton.
Massachusetts State Police identified the victim as Patrick Sarpong of Vernon, Connecticut.
Authorities said Sarpong’s vehicle was positioned partially in the westbound travel lane and partially in the breakdown lane when he was outside clearing snow from it. A passing tractor-trailer struck Sarpong during the incident. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The crash remains under active investigation by Massachusetts State Police.
No further details about the driver of the tractor-trailer or contributing factors have been released at this time.
