Massachusetts State Lottery $1 million prize claimed 2 days before expiring after ticket found in basement
A man almost lost on big money recently after his prize was hours away from expiring.
According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, Justo Rivera claimed a $1 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$10,000,000 Gold” instant game just two days before it was due to expire.
Rivera said that he was using the Mass Lottery app to scan tickets that he had stored in his basement when he discovered his good fortune.
The last day to redeem a prize in the “$10,000,000 Gold” instant game was Friday, September 8, as announced on that date one year ago.
Rivera selected the cash option on his prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000 (before taxes). He plans to use his winnings to go to Disney World and upgrade to fast passes.
His winning ticket was purchased at Varnum Market, 863 Varnum Ave. in Lowell. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket.
