Massachusetts sees increase in hospitalizations Tuesday, 12 reported dead, positive test rate remains 1.1%

Massachusetts saw an increase in hospitalizations in Tuesday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts has seen 349 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Monday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate remains at 1.1%.

Massachusetts had seen 571 more positive cases announced yesterday.

Due to the planned upgrade by DPH of its electronic laboratory reporting system during the weekend of August 22-23, Monday’s data report included information reported to DPH over the weekend (from 5PM Friday 8/21 through 8AM Monday 8/24) and so numbers were higher than usual. All laboratory results, cases, and deaths have been assigned to their respective test dates.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total cases to 116,770 with 12 more reported dead for a total of 8,729.

22,774 tests were performed, over 15,000 less than Saturday’s report, to increase the overall total to 2,157,864. The amount of individuals tested is now 1,604,752.

Hospitalizations have decreased in 81 of the last 106 days, however, hospitalizations increased 19 today to see the total increase to 327.

• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 76,344
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 2,843

According to the CDC, as of August 25th, the total amount of COVID-19 cases in the country is 5,715,567 with 176,617 dead.
