Massachusetts sees 80 newly reported COVID-19 deaths, hospitalizations, active cases, positive rate continue decline
Massachusetts saw an increase in hospitalizations in Wednesday’s COVID-19 report.
Massachusetts has seen 3,987 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Tuesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate saw a decrease to 5.86%. Sunday’s rate of 5.85% was the lowest the rate had been since the beginning of December. The rate was 3.3 on November 23rd.
Massachusetts had seen 2,567 more positive cases announced yesterday.
The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 458,089 with 80 more reported dead (78 confirmed, 2 probable) for a total of 13,829 (13,547 confirmed, 282 probable).
The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 12,536,712 after 82,567 new molecular tests.
The 7 day average of COVID-19 deaths is currently 59.
Estimated active cases decreased to 90,154.
Hospitalizations have increased in 89 of the last 128 days and 64 of the last 87, but saw a decrease of 4 to see the total lower to 2,209. COVID-19 hospitalizations have been decreasing as of late as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report
According to the January 14th report, Fall River has a 153.6 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (112.5 last week) which is 7th in the state. New Bedford saw an increase to 134.3 (was 97.9). Westport is also in the red at 96.4 (was 67.4), Swansea is at 109.3 and was 77.5 last week. Somerset also saw an increase as they sit at 104.9 (was 80.6). Freetown increased to 112.1 from 82.9. Dartmouth is currently at 113.2 after seeing 88.2 last week.
Massachusetts residents subject to COVID-19 quarantine by current status up to January 14th
• Total of individuals subject to quarantine: 205,082
• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 180,573
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 24,509
Massachusetts Officials have now also issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on January 14th.
