Massachusetts sees 100 new virus cases, announced 3 new deaths

Public health authorities on Wednesday confirmed 100 new COVID-19 cases and announced three recent deaths caused by the virus, raising the state’s cumulative case count to 661,394 infections and increasing the virus’s death toll to 17,886 people.

The Department of Public Health said that a new seven-day average of 117.3 daily new cases of COVID-19 establishes a new recorded low.

DPH said there were 216 people hospitalized with the respiratory illness (a decrease of nine patients from 24 hours prior) and that the state’s average positivity rate stands at 0.69 percent, up just a tick from the day before.

DPH estimated that there are 5,431 active cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, roughly equal to the population of Barre.
