Massachusetts Salt Water Beaches start opening
DCR allows the use of only U.S. Coast Guard approved flotation devices at its public swimming ocean,
Horseneck Beach and other state beaches have begun opening today.
Between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day, DCR offers access to parking, restroom facilities, and regular water quality testing at Massachusetts beaches. Many DCR beaches also offer lifeguard services.
If you are interested in enjoying today’s warm weather at Horseneck Beach, the daily parking fee charged through October 31 is $13 for Massachusetts residents and $20 for non-residents. The beach has basketball, biking, boating, camping, fishing, picnicking, sailing, swimming, and walking. Horseneck is open from sunrise to sunset and is located at 5 John Reed Road. Fort Phoenix State Reservation on Green Street in Fairhaven has free onsite parking where you can swim, shoot basketball, do some grilling, go for a walk or play some tennis. Fort Phoenix is also open from sunrise to sunset. Contact them at (508) 992-4524 with any questions.
DCR allows the use of only U.S. Coast Guard approved flotation devices at its public swimming ocean, inland beaches and pools. The user of the approved flotation device must be accompanied by a capable swimmer. Inflatable devices are not allowed.
DCR asks that parents or guardians always keep a close watch on their children win in any amount of water. In certain conditions such as strong currents, flotation devices may not be allowed by the lifeguard staff.
