In what is probably not a surprise to many, driving in New England can have its challenges according to a new ranking.

According to WalletHub, Massachusetts is the seventh worst state for driving. Don’t laugh if you live in Rhode Island or New Hampshire as your state faired even worse. Sixth and fifth worst respectively. No New England state made it into the top thirty.

WalletHub compared the 50 states across four key dimensions: 1) Cost of Ownership & Maintenance, 2) Traffic & Infrastructure, 3) Safety and 4) Access to Vehicles & Maintenance.

Massachusetts and Rhode Island both ranked near or at the bottom in both Cost of Ownership/Maintenance and Traffic/Infrastructure. Rhode Island also ranked near the bottom in Access to Vehicles/Maintenance. When it came to safety however, both states fared well as Rhode Island ranked first while Massachusetts ranked forth.
