Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut expected to see damaging winds, some rain

A Wind Advisory has been issued for all of southern New England that will soon be in effect.

According to the National Weather Service, they are monitoring the potential for strong and possibly damaging winds Thursday. Most areas can expect gusts of 45 to 55 mph, but they can’t rule out a few locations reaching 60 mph, especially in western and central Massachusetts.

The wind will be capable of bringing down branches, wires, and possibly weakened trees. Secure any outdoor items that can be blown around by the wind today. Power outages are possible. Driving may be difficult due to sudden wind gusts.

The Wind Advisory will be in effect from 7:00 p.m. Wednesday until 10:00 p.m. Thursday.

The forecast:

New Year’s Day

Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 51. West wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

Tonight

A chance of showers, mainly before 10pm. Patchy fog before midnight. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 32. West wind 13 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 41. Breezy, with a west wind 18 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 47 mph.

Thursday Night

Mostly clear, with a low around 27. West wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph.
