Massachusetts police officer seriously injured after part of ear bitten off in attack
Chelsea-MA –– Friday afternoon, a Chelsea Police Officer sustained serious injuries while responding to a domestic incident on Shurtleff Street.
At approximately 2:20 p.m. officers were dispatched to the location following reports of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, the responding officers encountered a highly volatile situation. During the course of the engagement, one officer was attacked, resulting in part of their ear being bitten off.
The officer was immediately provided with first aid at the scene and was transported to MGH Boston for further treatment. His condition is currently stable, but he will require further medical attention.
The suspect involved in the incident, identified as 27-year-old Carlos Daniel Sanabria, has been apprehended and is in custody. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
Chief Keith E. Houghton stated, “This is a stark reminder of the dangers our officers face every day. We are grateful that the injuries, while serious, were not life-threatening. Our thoughts are with the officer and his family as he recovers.” The Chelsea Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of its officers and the community.
