Massachusetts police department warns public of scam where people are posing as officers

An old scam is making the rounds yet again and stealing people’s money.

According to Dartmouth Police, earlier today numerous residents reported receiving a call from a sergeant at the “Dartmouth Police Department” calling to inform them that they missed jury duty and there is currently a warrant out for their arrest.

They are claiming that the police are on the way to their home to arrest them, unless they render payment to clear the warrant as soon as possible. They gave them multiple options for payment and even said they could use a kiosk in the front lobby. The caller used a specific name of someone at their department, “badge number”, “report number”, and even spoofed their phone number to make it look like it came from the station.

This scam has been happening throughout Massachusetts.

No department will call you saying there is a warrant out for your arrest.

If you received a call like this, hang up and let your local police department know.
