Massachusetts police department announces passing of active-duty police detective

The Boston Police Department mourns the recent passing of active-duty Boston Police Detective Mark G. Walsh, on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

Detective Walsh was assigned to A-1 Detectives. Detective Walsh was appointed to the Boston Police Department on October 31, 2005. His prior assignments as a Police Officer included District D-4, the Youth Violence Strike Force and District C-11. He was rated Detective on August 21, 2021 and assigned to A-1 Detectives.

Detective Walsh received commendations and accolades for his dedicated service as a Police Officer and as a Detective from the community and by those he served with. Several commendations were for the removal of firearms and dangerous felons from the streets of Boston, for assisting an outside agency with the apprehension of a murder suspect, for the arrests on warrants for drug and weapon charges, for the arrest of a B&E suspect plaquing a neighborhood and for his partnership with a community group to share insights into gangs so that they could better understand and support youth in foster care.

Detective Walsh was highly regarded by those he worked with, his supervisors and all who knew him, both within the Department and by those he served.
