This is a heartwarming story that is sure to pull on your heart strings.

According to family members, 8-year-old AJ Congdon of Oxford, MA was diagnosed with an inoperable cancerous brain tumor this past fall. While the last few months have been difficult, the community has come together to brighten the boy’s days.

The Oxford Police Department partnered with Make-A-Wish Massachusetts/Rhode Island and the Oxford Fire Department to give AJ an unforgettable experience.

In late January, the three organizations held a WISH sendoff party for AJ before his trip to Disney World.

AJ is also the newest member of the Oxford Police Department and was made an Honorary Police Officer by Chief Daniels. AJ was also made an honorary Fire Fighter by Deputy Chief Bellanger.

During the sendoff, AJ was surrounded by police officers, firefighters, friends and family to celebrate his Walt Disney World trip. Community members donated food to the celebration.

The whole experience left the Oxford PD with a sense of community.

“The town of Oxford continues to inspire our organization every day.”

OPD issued an update as AJ recently returned from his trip to Disney World.

“He rode all the rides, saw Mickey and Minnie, saw Yoda, went on some roller coasters and swam in the pools. But, at the end of the day AJ had to come back to work at the Oxford PD and vacation had to end. We love that he and his family had such a good time on his Make-A-Wish trip. AJ is an inspiration to all of us. Thank you for being you AJ!”

AJ was so proud to be a part of the police department that he even wore his uniform while on the trip.

In October of last year, AJ’s football team, the Charlton Dudley Rams, helped him score a touchdown pushing his wheelchair across the goal line.
