Massachusetts native in movie shot in Fall River, to play Red Auerbach in docuseries

A Massachusetts native will be playing one of the most iconic figures in Boston sports history.

Michael Chiklis, who was born in Lowell, has been cast to star as former Boston Celtics legendary coach Red Auerbach in a 2 part series about the Los Angeles Lakers.

As Boston Celtics coach and general manager, Auerbach won an impressive 16 titles in 29 years.

Also featured in the series, in addition to Chiklis, is Adrien Brody as Pat Riley, Sally Field as Jessie Buss, John C. Reilly as Jerry Buss, Solomon Hughes as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kirk Bovill as Donald Sterling, Jason Clarke as Jerry West, Hadley Robinson as Jeanie Buss, Quincy Isaiah as Magic Johnson, and Delante Desouza as Michael Cooper.

Chiklis is thrilled to be a part of the project.

“Being from the Boston area growing up and having lived in LA for the past 30 years, this is a particularly special gig and role. Especially with this group of people.”

The project is directed by Salli Richardson-Whitfield and Adam McKay with writing credits going to Max Borenstein, Jeff Pearlman, and Jim Hecht.

The series is expected to premiere in 2022.

With many projects to his credit, Chiklis is most known for his lead tv roles in The Shield, The Commish, and Gotham, in addition to the movie Fantastic Four. He has more recently starred in the new TV thriller Coyote.

Chiklis will also be staring in the movie Don’t Look Up which shot scenes in Fall River.
