Massachusetts mother loses husband then loses home and pets in devastating house fire
A Massachusetts family is once again experiencing tragedy.
According to The Hundred Club of Massachusetts, Kegi Fontanez lost her husband, Jose Fontanez, a 29-year veteran of the Boston Police Department, in 2020. A statement from Boston Police shows that Fontanez passed away due to complications from Covid-19 while serving the community during the pandemic.
The Hundred Club revealed that on Monday, Kegi and her family faced another heartbreaking challenge with a devastating fire in their Wrentham home. Thankfully, none of the family members were injured, but they lost two beloved pets and all of their belongings.
Wrentham, Foxboro, Norfolk, Plainville, Franklin, Bellingham, North Attleboro, Walpole, and Mansfield crews responded to heavy fire on Shears Street which turned into a 2nd alarm.
Three people have been displaced and, according to a GoFundMe fundraiser, their dog, Icarus, and cat, Mango were the deceased pets.
The funds raised through the fundraiser, which is nearing $19,000 as of this writing, will help the family cover immediate needs such as food, clothing, and temporary housing.
No word yet on what caused the blaze.
