Massachusetts mother indicted in death of her 2-month-old child
BROCKTON- A Massachusetts woman has been indicted on a charge of Reckless Endangerment of a Child in the death of her two-month-old, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Today, a Plymouth County grand jury returned one indictment charging Tara Chevalier, 39, of Plymouth, in the death of her infant, two-month-old, Carter Chevalier.
On June 14, 2021, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Plymouth Police received two 911 calls from Tara Chevalier reporting that she was suffering from a medical episode, and that her baby was deceased. Plymouth Police and Brewster Emergency Medical Services responded to the address on Marc Drive in Plymouth. Upon arrival, Tara Chevalier was treated by first responders and transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth.
Investigators located an unresponsive male infant laying in a bassinet. The victim was determined to be deceased on scene and was identified as Carter Chevalier.
Plymouth Police contacted Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office to begin an investigation.
As a result of the investigation and today’s indictment, it is alleged that Tara Chevalier, as the infant’s mother and primary custodian, failed to take reasonable steps to engage in medical treatment for the infant.
Chevalier will be arraigned on the charge in superior court at a later date.
