Massachusetts mother held on bail after authorities say 2-month-old injured so severely that she may never walk, speak, feed or care for herself

BROCKTON – A woman has pleaded not guilty to charges that she physically abused her two-month-old child, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has announced.

Jillian Timmons, 34, was arraigned in Brockton District Court today on two counts of Assault and Battery on a Child Causing Serious Bodily Injury, and one count of Reckless Endangerment of a Child. Timmons pleaded not guilty to the charges and was held on $100,000 cash bail, with the conditions that should she make bail, Timmons must stay away and have no contact with the baby or the baby’s father.

Timmons’ arraignment follows a two-week investigation by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Abington Police.

On July 17th, a mandated reporter at South Shore Hospital contacted authorities about the suspected physical abuse of Timmons’ daughter, after Timmons brought her into South Shore Hospital for treatment. The infant had a core temperature of 93 degrees, and had bruises on the left and right sides of her face. As a result, she was medflighted to Children’s Hospital in Boston, where she remains in the neonatal intensive care unit. It has been determined that the infant suffered serious brain bleeds that were several days old, and consistent with physical abuse and blunt force trauma. The injuries are believed to be so severe that the infant may
never walk, speak, feed or care for themself.

As a result of the investigation, detectives developed probable cause and sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Timmons. She was taken into custody yesterday afternoon.

Massachusetts State Police sought and obtained a search warrant for the Abington apartment where Timmons was living. There they seized as evidence an Apple iPad, Apple laptop, and a journal that Timmons kept of the infant.

The investigation is ongoing.

Timmons is next scheduled to appear in court on August 31st.
