According to reports, one of the brothers fell in the water with the second brother trying to rescue him. A third person tried to rescue the brothers and was brought to shore safe.
Fall River Reporter asked a relative about the Centeio brothers.
“They were amazing sons, brothers, and friends. Aldino, the 27-year-old, came to the U.S. 5 years ago. He was the bread winner. Helped his mom and older sibling and his niece. They all lived together in a small 1-bedroom apartment. He was the youngest of 10 kids. Was the one his mom could count on for everything. Valdir, the 31-year-old brother, just recently came to the US. He arrived here on July 1st, looking for the American dream. He literally died a day after receiving his green card. They were quiet young men. They were not drinkers or party goers. They came to this country with a purpose. God called them too soon.”
The family created a GoFundMe fundraiser for funeral expenses.
The wake will take place on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at George Funeral home, 647 Main St, Brockton. Monday morning. the funeral mass will be held at Saint Edith Church, 71 E Main St, Brockton, at 10:00 a.m. and then to Melrose Cemetery, 88 North Pearl Street, Brockton.
