Massachusetts man sentenced to prison for fatal shooting at mall that killed 26-year-old

A Massachusetts man was sentenced to prison Thursday after a fatal shooting at a mall.

Officers of the Braintree Police, Boston Police, Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and Gang Unit, and US Marshal Service, arrested in February 2022 a then 19-year-old Julius Hammond-Desir of Maynard for shooting and killing 26-year-old Dijoun Beasley in January 2022 at the South Shore Plaza.

According to court records, Hammond-Desir was found guilty of Murder, Carrying a Load Firearm Without a License, and Carrying a Firearm Without a License and was sentenced to 25-years-to life with the possibility of parole.

Braintree Police say that while inside the Forever 21 store at the mall, Hammond-Desir approached the victim, brandished a firearm and fired. The victim was transported to a Boston area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Samantha Schwartz of Attleboro previously pleaded not guilty in the case after being accused of being an accessory-after-the-fact in the murder.
