Some Massachusetts Target shoppers had an alleged unwelcome surprise this week.

According to police, on Tuesday, at approximately 2:45 p.m., officers responded to Target, located at 1167 Washington Street in Hanover, after receiving multiple reports of a disturbance in the parking lot.

Witnesses reported that a shirtless white male was seated in a gray Kia with the windows down and was engaging in lewd conduct while the vehicle was parked in the middle of the lot.

While officers were en route, they were informed that the vehicle had left the parking lot and was last seen traveling toward Route 53. Witnesses provided a registration number that matched the vehicle’s description. They also provided an additional description of the suspect as a white male with a beard and strawberry-blond hair.

Through further investigation, officers identified the suspect as a Weymouth resident. Hanover Police Detectives contacted Weymouth Police Detectives and through a joint investigation, the suspect was located in the parking lot of Marshalls, located at 35 Pleasant Street in Weymouth.

The suspect, identified as Troy Bennet, was taken into custody, and charged with Open and Gross Lewdness/Lascivious behavior and Lewd, Wanton/Lascivious Person.

He was later released after posting $1500 cash bail and arraigned at Hingham District Court on the above charges.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
