Massachusetts man released on bail after allegedly throwing dog off of balcony
A Massachusetts man has been released on bail after being accused of tossing a dog off of a balcony.
According to police, on Saturday, at approximately 2:39 a.m., the Milford Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a possible disturbance at the Oak Ridge Apartments on Pheasant Circle. The caller also reported that a dog may have been thrown from a balcony.
Upon arrival, officers located a small gray dog severely injured and partially buried in a snowbank beneath the apartment associated with the disturbance. Officers immediately began arranging medical treatment for the animal while additional units responded to the apartment.
Once inside, officers observed significant damage throughout the residence. A search of the apartment located 25-year-old Alex De Oliveira of Milford hiding in the bathroom. De Oliveira appeared visibly upset and showed signs of intoxication.
The on-scene investigation determined that De Oliveira was alone in the apartment and had allegedly become upset during a phone conversation with a person who was in Brazil.
“This is a senseless, inexcusable attack on a defenseless animal.” Said Milford Chief of Police Robert Tusino, “The depravity of some individuals is beyond comprehension to those of us who consider animals part of our family.”
The injured animal was taken to Tufts Animal Hospital in Grafton, MA for treatment.
At 3:31 a.m., De Oliveira was taken into custody for Cruelty to an Animal, Disturbing the Peace, and Vandalizing Property before later being bailed and released for $5,000.
