Massachusetts man pleads not guilty, held without bail in Fall River court concerning New Bedford murder

A Massachusetts man was held without bail Friday after being accused of murdering a man in New Bedford.

According to Jennifer Sowa, Second Assistant District Attorney at the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 11:30 p.m. on October 3rd, New Bedford Police were called to the area outside of 1304 Acushnet Avenue for a report of a male stabbing victim.

The victim, 51-year-old Jesus Torres, was rushed to Saint Luke’s Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased after the altercation.

The suspect identified as, Angel Avelino, 32 years old of Lynn, Massachusetts was charged with Murder. 

Avelino was arraigned Friday morning in Fall River Superior Court where he pled not guilty.

His next court appearance is scheduled for March 7th.

According to WJAR 10, Avelino had six open cases in Lynn, including assault and battery and larceny.
