Massachusetts man held on bail after hit-and-run crash that killed 41-year-old Holden Depina
Brockton – A 30-year-old local man faced arraignment today on charges related to a deadly hit-and-run incident from last month, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz.
Dominick Leite is accused of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation and fleeing the scene of an accident causing personal injury or death. He entered a not guilty plea and was held on $2,500 cash bail, with orders to avoid all contact with witnesses. Prosecutors had sought $5,000 cash bail.
Massachusetts State Police learned on September 3rd that the victim from an August 31st hit-and-run had passed away from his injuries at a nearby hospital. The deceased was identified as 41-year-old Holden Depina. Early findings showed that just before 10:00 p.m. on August 31st, a blue Mazda struck Depina as he crossed Crescent Street in Brockton. A driver in the area witnessed the car fleeing, and video evidence captured by authorities traced the Mazda to a residence later linked to Leite.
Investigators located a blue 2015 Mazda 6 exhibiting damage matching the crash at a nearby auto repair facility. The car, registered to Leite, had been dropped off on September 2nd. Authorities also connected the contact number used for the shop to Leite.
Leite was taken into custody peacefully at his Brockton residence on September 17th.
An obituary described Depina as a gentleman and a caring soul with a friendly nature and kind heart.
His next court appearance is set for October 17.
