Massachusetts man held on $500 cash bail after allegedly leaving small child alone in a car while shopping at Walmart

NORTHBOROUGH – Police Chief Brian Griffin reports that the Northborough Police Department has arrested a Worcester man following an investigation into reports that he had left a child in a locked car. 

40-year-old Luis Fwenando Lopez Veloez of Worcester, was arrested and charged with Reckless Endangerment of a Child .

On Thursday, at just after 4:00 p.m., Northborough Police responded to the Walmart on Otis Street for reports of a small child who was left alone in a locked, parked vehicle. 

Upon arrival, Northborough Police and Fire quickly located the vehicle and were able to safely remove the child from the car. The child was evaluated by EMS and transported to an area hospital for evaluation. 

Northborough Police located the owner of the vehicle, identified as Lopez Veloez. 

Through a subsequent investigation, it was determined that Lopez Veloez was shopping and left the child in the vehicle. 

It is believed the outside temperature was about 90 degrees at the time. 

Lopez Veloez was arrested without incident.

Court records show that he was arraigned in Westborough District Court on Friday where he pled not guilty and was being held on $5,000 bond/$500 cash bail.

Lopez Veloez next scheduled court appearance is a pretrial hearing \on July 10th.

Northborough Police recognized the quick actions of the public safety personnel and the bystander who called 911.
