Massachusetts man has big plans after small win leads to $4 million State Lottery prize
A small win led to a big win for a Massachusetts man recently.
According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, James Leonard of Sandwich is the winner of a $4 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$4,000,000 Diamonds” $10 instant ticket game.
Leonard said that the day before his big win, he had stopped to get a tonic water and also bought two tickets, one of which was a $50 winner. When he went to get gas the next day, he cashed that ticket in and bought five more. He said he scratched them while sitting in his easy chair at home and it was the fifth one that revealed his $4 million prize.
Leonard chose the cash option on his prize and received a one-time payment of $2,600,000 (before taxes). He said he plans to use his winnings to buy a new home and fund his retirement.
He purchased his winning ticket at Sam’s Food Stores, 261 Main St. in Buzzards Bay. The store receives a $40,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket.
