Massachusetts man found deceased in Sakonnet River in Portsmouth remembered as kind as services announced
A Massachusetts man who was found deceased in Rhode Island earlier this week is being remembered.
Family members say 65-year-old Leonidas Barrera Gonzalez of Marlborough died doing what he loved. Fishing.
Gonzalez’s body was recovered Monday by Portsmouth and Middletown personnel in the Sakonnet River in the area of Indian Avenue near the town line.
Those who knew Gonzalez described him as a good man who was kind and generous.
The visitation for Gonzalez is Monday, July 29, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday July 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect Street, Marlborough. Committal will be on Tuesday July 30, 2024, at 11:45 a.m. at St. Luke’s Cemetery
24 Hopkinton Road, Westborough.
No foul play is suspected, however, his death is under investigation.
