Massachusetts man facing several charges after wrong-way crash in Rhode Island
A Massachusetts man has been arrested on multiple charges after an early-morning wrong-way crash in Rhode Island on Sunday.
According to Rhode Island State Police, just before 3:45 a.m., Troopers arrested 23-year-old Evan Baptiste, of Worcester, Massachusetts, for Driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs BAC Unknown – First offense, Reckless Driving, Driving to Endanger – Resulting in Physical Injury (Four Counts), and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test.
The arrest was the result of Troopers responding to the report of a motor vehicle accident involving a wrong way driver on Route 146 North, in the Town of Lincoln.
According to scanner transmissions, a call came in for the multi-vehicle crash at approximately 3:15 a.m. near the Route 116 ramp.
Significant debris could be seen across the highway.
Four rescues were called to the scene to transport victims to area hospitals.
Baptiste was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks and held overnight pending arraignment.
