BROCKTON- A Brockton man was convicted on several charges in connection with a deadly crash that claimed the life of an 87-year-old woman and injured several others, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

After a 5-day trial, a jury deliberated 5 hours before finding Randy Campbell, 35, of Brockton, guilty today of one count each of Manslaughter, Motor Vehicle Homicide, Operating to Endanger. Plymouth County Superior Court Judge Diane Freniere will hold sentencing on August 11, 2022

On Sunday, July 19, 2020, at approximately 9:32 a.m., Massachusetts State Police responded to a multiple vehicle crash along Route 3 north, just prior to exit 12 in Pembroke. Upon arrival, police found that the crash involved four vehicles and first responders rendered aid to the occupants of the vehicles. Two people, the operator and a passenger who were riding in a Volkswagen Tiguan, were seriously injured and transported to South Shore Hospital. The passenger in that vehicle, Nancy Chamberlain, 87, of Quincy, later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Results of the investigation, witness accounts and interviews revealed that a Hyundai Elantra being operated by Campbell was traveling at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended the Tiguan. The collision forced the Tiguan to impact a Chrysler Town and County minivan before the Tiguan left the roadway and struck a tree. After Campbell’s vehicle struck the Tiguan, the Hyundai struck the minivan which forced the minivan to rear end a Ford F150 pickup truck. The roadway was temporarily shut down for a period of time and the crash snarled traffic for hours.

Campbell, who was injured in the crash, was transported to South Shore Hospital for treatment of his injuries and Massachusetts State Police arrested him there on July 27, 2020.
