Massachusetts man charged related to an ongoing investigation into fatal shooting in BJ’s parking lot

A Dorchester man is expected to be arraigned Monday in Dedham District Court on charges related to an ongoing investigation into a fatal shooting last month in a BJ’s parking lot on Route 1 in Dedham, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey announced today.

Franci Villar, 23, is charged with armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, firearm violation with a prior violent/drug offense, District Attorney Morrissey said.

20-year-old Jaylani Cole of Brockton was found suffering from gunshot wounds shortly after 3:30 a.m. on June 25th after Dedham police received multiple 911 calls. He was later pronounced deceased at an area hospital.

Another shooting victim, a 20-year-old man, underwent surgery at an area hospital and recovered.

The business was closed at the time of the incident.

The investigation is active and ongoing by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office and Dedham Police.
