Massachusetts man accused of brutally murdering married couple facing new charges

BROCKTON – A man has been indicted on charges that he brutally murdered a married couple found bludgeoned to death in their Marshfield home, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Tuesday, a Plymouth County grand jury indicted 28-year-old Christopher Keeley on two counts of Murder in the deaths of Carl and Vicki Mattson, both 70 years- old. Keeley is currently being held without bail.

On November 29, 2022, at approximately 9:19 p.m., Marshfield Police received a call requesting that a well-being check be performed at a home located at 75 Gotham Hill Drive. Upon arrival, Marshfield Police officers discovered the bodies of a male and female victim with obvious signs of trauma. The Mattsons, who were bludgeoned and stabbed, were determined to be deceased on scene.

Marshfield Police contacted the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, and an investigation commenced. Detectives developed probable cause and identified Keeley as a person of interest in the double homicide, and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Massachusetts State Police Commonwealth Fusion Center issued a BOLO alert for Keeley, and a 2019 black Jeep Wrangler. Investigators recovered and secured the Jeep in an Avon parking lot, unoccupied.

On December 2, 2022, Keeley was taken into custody in Miami Beach Florida for an unrelated incident. Working with Massachusetts State Police, authorities in Florida detained Keeley on the Massachusetts warrant for two counts of Murder.
Keeley waived his right to rendition in Florida, and Massachusetts State Police returned him to Massachusetts on December 16, 2022.

Keeley was additionally indicted Tuesday on one count each of Misuse of a Credit Card, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, and Animal Cruelty, for allegedly killing the Mattson’s dog. He will be arraigned in Plymouth Superior Court at a later date.
Assistant District Attorney Amanda Fowle is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by Massachusetts State Police and Marshfield Police.
