STATE HOUSE, BOSTON…..Time’s almost up for Lucky for Life.

The Massachusetts Lottery early next year will stop offering the multi-state draw that launched here in 2012 and will begin offering a Millionaire for Life draw game instead.

Tickets for the new game will cost $5, compared to $2 for Lucky for Life, and the grand prize will be $1 million a year for life.

Drawings will still be held daily. The first drawing of Millionaire for Life is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026, the day after the last drawing of Lucky for Life.

The Lottery Commission last week voted unanimously to make the switch.

Asked why the Lottery was making the move, Mass. Lottery Executive Director Mark William Bracken said the decision on the multi-state draw game was made through a consortium vote “in an effort to merge Lucky for Life and Cash4Life into a singular game as a more advanced product for its players.”

The Massachusetts Lottery “did not vote in favor of this change, particularly for the price increase,” Bracken said, but is “excited to share this new opportunity to win $1 million a year for life with our players in 2026.”

Monthly Lucky for Life ticket sales have fluctuated over the past three years from $3.5 million to $4.6 million.

Lucky for Life was introduced in Massachusetts in March 2012. At the time, it was the first multi-state lottery game offering to be played in all six New England states.

Currently, 23 lotteries participate in Lucky for Life. Thirty-three state lotteries are scheduled to participate in the launch of Millionaire for Life.

Unadjusted overall Lottery sales for the first four months of fiscal 2026 are up $30.3 million compared to the first four months of fiscal 2025. The Lottery’s estimated net profit so far in fiscal 2026 is $361.6 million, compared to $318.9 million for the first four months of fiscal 2025.
