East Bridgewater — Chief Michael Jenkins announced that the East Bridgewater Police Department has brought 21 new charges against a Brockton man who was arrested in March for secretly photographing a woman in the shower at the local YMCA.

Abidan Rivera, 43, of Brockton, now faces 17 counts of photographing, videotaping, or electronically surveilling someone nude or partially nude, or capturing their sexual intimate parts; two counts of posing or exhibiting a child in a state of nudity or sexual conduct; and two counts of possessing child pornography.

Rivera was first taken into custody on March 2 for a single count of the same surveillance offense. He entered a guilty plea in May and is serving time at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility.

The additional charges arose from a detailed probe, including a forensic review of Rivera’s cellphone by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office High Tech Evidence Analysis Team (H.E.A.T.). The examination uncovered 17 additional unauthorized images depicting nude women and children who were unaware of the photography, all seemingly captured in the YMCA’s family locker room.

“I want to commend Detective Cecelia Cacciatore for her persistence during this careful, detailed, and thorough investigation,” said Chief Jenkins. “We thank the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office for their valuable assistance. Collaborative efforts like this are essential to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community.”
