Massachusetts father dies attempting to rescue child, child’s mother, during trip to New Hampshire
ALBANY, New Hampshire – A Massachusetts father has died after attempting to rescue his child and the child’s mother.
According to New Hampshire State Police, on Sunday just after 12:30 p.m., NHSP Dispatch received a call regarding a possible drowning in the Swift River in Albany.
Initial investigation revealed that a family from Massachusetts was on the Passaconaway roadside of the Swift River, east of the Albany covered bridge. The mother and child became stuck in an area with fast moving water. The father attempted to rescue them and ultimately became caught in the current himself. The mother and child got to shore, and bystanders helped bring the victim to the shoreline where CPR was performed. He was ultimately pronounced deceased.
The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Vincent Parr of Lawrence, Massachusetts.
Responding agencies included New Hampshire State Police #TroopE, New Hampshire State Police #MarinePatrol, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, United States Forest Service Law Enforcement, United States Forest Service Rangers, and the Conway Fire Department.
