Massachusetts DOT announces Veterans Memorial Bridge inspections over 7 days in Fall River, Somerset, to cause closures; here are the details
FALL RIVER/SOMERSET– The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced it will be performing a bridge inspection on the Veterans Memorial Bridge eastbound and westbound (Route 6) in Fall River and Somerset.
The work is scheduled to take place daily between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 8th, through Friday, December 12th and nightly on Monday, December 15th, and Tuesday, December 16th, between 9:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. the following morning. Work is anticipated to be completed by Wednesday morning, December 17th.
The following traffic impacts will be in place during work hours:
- Monday, December 8, through Wednesday, December 10: Pedestrian/ Bike Path closed
- Thursday, December 11, and Friday, December 12: Route 6 eastbound/Route 138 southbound right lane closure (exit ramps to remain open)
- Monday, December 15: Route 6 eastbound right lane closure on ramp to Route 79/Route 138 southbound (left lane open for traffic)
- Tuesday, December 16: Route 6 eastbound ramp to Route 79 northbound closed. Detour in place to divert traffic to Route 79 southbound to reverse direction at first available cross street.
Appropriate signage and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.
Drivers traveling through the affected area should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.
