Massachusetts DOT announces upcoming street closure as part of Route 79-Davol Street corridor improvements

Published

on

A street closure will be taking place as part of the Route 79-Davol Street corridor improvement project.

MassDOT will close Turner Street, between Davol Street and Durfee Street, starting March 10, 2025. A detour will be implemented to direct traffic from Davol Street Northbound to Turner Street. This detour will be in effect for approximately 2 weeks. Local access to BayCoast Bank will be maintained.

Through traffic will not be able to use Turner Street, between Davol Street Northbound and Durfee Street. Detour routes will be clearly signed and marked.

For access to Turner Street from Davol Street Northbound (view a map here):

  • Continue on Davol Street Northbound then turn right on President Avenue.
  • Turn right on N Main Street then right on Old Colony Street.
  • Turn left on Durfee Street and continue to your destination.

For access to Davol Street from Durfee Street (view a map here):

  • Travel south on Durfee Street then turn left on Cedar Street.
  • Turn left on N Main Street then left on President Avenue and continue to your destination.

Weather and unexpected circumstances make all construction activities subject to change.

Davol Street and Route 79 run along the Taunton Riverfront in Fall River. Currently, access between the neighborhoods and the waterfront is limited and the corridor lacks bicycle accommodations. MassDOT is redesigning the mile-long corridor to improve mobility, connectivity, and safety along and across Route 79 and Davol Street. The corridor will be transformed into a multi-modal urban boulevard, connecting the neighborhoods to the Taunton River while promoting economic growth by creating new development parcels to contribute to economic development.
