Massachusetts DOT will implement temporary closures of the Route 6 Eastbound to Route 79 Southbound and the Route 79 Northbound to Route 6 Westbound ramps in Fall River beginning on or about Monday, October 20 from 9 PM each night to 5 AM the following morning. These closures will be in place nightly for approximately one week for paving work on Route 6 Eastbound and Westbound ramps.

Traffic traveling on Route 6 Eastbound and Westbound ramps towards Route 79 Southbound and Northbound will be temporarily detoured:

Route 6 Eastbound to Route 79 Southbound:

  • While traveling on Route 6 Eastbound, stay in the left lane to pass the Route 79 Southbound exit and continue onto Route 79 Northbound
  • In approximately 0.5 miles, take the exit to North Main Street
  • Turn left onto North Main Street and travel north for 0.2 miles and then turn right onto Route 79 Southbound
  • Continue approximately 1 mile south on Route 79 Southbound and continue to your destination

Route 79 Northbound to Route 6 Westbound:

  • While traveling on Route 79 Northbound, continue past the Route 6 Westbound exit for approximately 0.5 miles and take the exit to North Main Street
  • Turn left onto North Main Street and travel north for 0.2 miles and turn right onto Route 79 Southbound
  • Continue approximately 0.5 miles south on Route 79 Southbound and take the Route 6 Westbound exit to continue to your destination

Weather and unexpected circumstances make all construction activities subject to change, but we will do our best to keep you updated.

During this construction phase, traffic in impacted areas will remain open. Please take care to pay attention to all signage as it is posted.

Davol Street and Route 79 run along the Taunton Riverfront in Fall River. Currently, access between the neighborhoods and the waterfront is limited and the corridor lacks bicycle accommodations. MassDOT is redesigning the mile-long corridor to improve mobility, connectivity, and safety along and across Route 79 and Davol Street. The corridor will be transformed into a multi-modal urban boulevard, connecting the neighborhoods to the Taunton River while promoting economic growth by creating new development parcels to contribute to economic development.
