As improvements continue to be made on the Davol Street and Route 79 project in Fall River, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation has made an announcement that will impact drivers.

MassDOT will implement a temporary dedicated left turn lane from Davol Street Southbound to President Avenue Eastbound beginning on or about July 11. Vehicles traveling west on President Avenue to Davol Street Southbound will continue to be detoured using the Brightman Street U-turn. This closure will be in place 24 hours a day for approximately six weeks.

Traffic traveling south on Davol Street to President Avenue Eastbound will have a dedicated left turn lane.

Traffic traveling west on President Avenue to Davol Street Southbound will continue to be temporarily detoured to the Brightman Street U-turn:

  • Turn right at the President Avenue / Davol Northbound intersection
  • Continue north approximately 0.4 miles to the Brightman Street U-turn and turn left
  • Continue approximately 300 feet to Davol Street Southbound intersection and turn left onto Davol Street Southbound and continue to your destination

Weather and unexpected circumstances make all construction activities subject to change.

During this construction phase, traffic in impacted areas will remain open. Please take care to pay attention to all signage as it is posted.

Davol Street and Route 79 run along the Taunton Riverfront in Fall River. Currently, access between the neighborhoods and the waterfront is limited, and the corridor lacks bicycle accommodations. MassDOT is redesigning the mile-long corridor to improve mobility, connectivity, and safety along and across Route 79 and Davol Street. The corridor will be transformed into a multi-modal urban boulevard, connecting the neighborhoods to the Taunton River while promoting economic growth by creating new development parcels to contribute to economic development.
