Massachusetts daily virus cases hit 888, but hospitalization at their lowest since November 2nd

Massachusetts saw a decrease in active cases, average positive test rate, and hospitalizations in Wednesday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts saw 888 more positive cases announced today, an increase from Tuesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate decreased from 1.60% to 1.50%. Monday’s 1.49% was the lowest since October 20th.

Massachusetts had seen 718 more positive cases announced yesterday. The lowest since October.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 649,855 with 14 more reported dead (13 confirmed, 1 probable) for a total of 17,658 (17,306 confirmed, 352 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 21,657,411 after 85,569 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths increased by 1.4 to 8.7. At the beginning of February, the average death rate was 70+.

Estimated active cases saw a decrease by 1300+ to 21,300. In the last 15 days, active cases have decreased by almost 12,200.

Hospitalizations have increased in 90 of the last 177 days, but saw a decrease of 31 to lower the total to 485. Hospitalizations have decreased in 13 of the last 15 days after a period of mainly increases. There were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. Today’s total of 485 active hospitalizations is the lowest since November 2nd.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the April 29th report, Fall River has a 25.8 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (32.4 last week). New Bedford saw a decrease to 35.0 (was 36.9). Westport saw a decrease to 22.6 (was 23.5), Swansea is at 26.4, a decrease, and was 34.0 last week. Somerset saw a decrease as they sit at 17.4 (was 25.8). Freetown stands at 19.7 a decrease from 22.1. Dartmouth is currently at 18.7, a decrease from last week’s 22.3. Acushnet increased to 30.1 (was 24.6). Berkley has the highest rate in Bristol County at 39.8 and was 48.2 last week.

26 Massachusetts communities are still in the red (high risk) which is down from 48 last week. 59 were in the red the week before. Acushnet, Berkley, Brockton, Chicopee, Dracut, Edgartown, Fall River, Hampden, Haverhill, Lawrence, Littleton, Lowell, Lynn, Methuen, Nantucket, New Bedford, Palmer, Revere, Southbridge, Southwick, Springfield, Taunton, Tisbury, Wareham, Winchendon and Yarmouth.

Massachusetts Officials have issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on April 29th.

As of May 5th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 32,313,016 cases of COVID-19 with 575,491 reported deaths.
