Massachusetts COVID-19 hospitalizations, active cases increase as country shatters one day case report record

Massachusetts saw yet another increase in hospitalizations, and active cases in Saturday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts has seen 3,995 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Friday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate saw a rare decrease to 6.01%. The rate was 3.3 on November 23rd.

Massachusetts had seen 5,632 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 306,928 with 47 more reported dead for a total of 11,657.

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 10,087,980 after 80,214 new molecular tests.

The 3 day average of COVID-19 deaths decreased by 2 to 44.

Estimated active cases increased to 81,282.

Hospitalizations have increased in 73 of the last 96 days and 48 of the last 55 and saw an increase by 53 to see the total raise to 1,927.

According to the December 16th report, Fall River has a 109.2 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (92.37 last week) which is another increase and the fifteenth highest in the state. New Bedford saw a big jump to 111.5 (was 78.80) leaving them thirteenth in the state. Westport is also in the red at 57.6 (was 45.62), Swansea is at 91.8 and was 78.82 last week, and Somerset saw a slight increase to 81.8 (was 80.16). Freetown also saw their rate increase as it now sits at 63.1 from 52.89. Dartmouth is currently at 63.7 after seeing 51.21 last week.

As of December 19th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 17,391,270 cases of COVID-19 with 312,636 reported deaths.
