Massachusetts COVID-19 active cases jump to 93,597, 70+ more dead

Massachusetts saw an increase in active cases in Friday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts has seen 5,074 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Thursday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate saw another decrease to 6.45% which is below the rate from 3 weeks ago. The rate was 3.3 on November 23rd.

Massachusetts had seen 5,545 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 438,371 with 76 more reported dead (75 confirmed, 1 probable) for a total of 13,509 (13,231 confirmed, 278 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 12,147,366 after 100,968 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of COVID-19 deaths is currently 56.

Estimated active cases increased to 93,597.

Hospitalizations have increased in 87 of the last 123 days and 62 of the last 82, but saw a decrease by 25 to see the total lower to 2,201.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the January 14th report, Fall River has a 153.6 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (112.5 last week) which is 7th in the state. New Bedford saw an increase to 134.3 (was 97.9). Westport is also in the red at 96.4 (was 67.4), Swansea is at 109.3 and was 77.5 last week. Somerset also saw an increase as they sit at 104.9 (was 80.6). Freetown increased to 112.1 from 82.9. Dartmouth is currently at 113.2 after seeing 88.2 last week.

• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 180,573
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 24,509

Massachusetts Officials have now also issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on January 14th.

As of January 15th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 23,193,703 cases of COVID-19 with 387,255 reported deaths.
