Massachusetts chow mein lovers continue withdrawals as Fall River noodle supplier is out of stock

Foodies from Fall River and beyond continue to suffer chow mein withdrawals as the region’s favorite noodle supplier continues to be out of stock.
The Oriental Chow Mein Company, located at 42 8th St in Fall River, has been a cornerstone of the local culinary scene since 1937, producing its iconic Hoo-Mee brand chow mein noodles and gravy mix. These noodles are a key ingredient in the region’s famous chow mein sandwich, a beloved dish in southeastern Massachusetts and parts of Rhode Island.
However, in May, the company began facing a significant disruption that has led to the temporary closure of the business and noodles out of stock, causing widespread concern among local restaurants and consumers.
The supply shortage was triggered by a “manufacturing mechanical failure” at the Oriental Chow Mein Company’s facility.
The disruption has caused chow mein lovers and area restaurants that rely on Hoo-Mee noodles to either go without or go to a less popular option.
As of Saturday, there is no definitive update on when the Oriental Chow Mein Company will resume production.
They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder. Does the same apply to chow mein?
