Massachusetts approaches 1,000 COVID-19 cases for second straight day, hospitalizations spike, 19 more dead

Massachusetts saw an increase in hospitalizations in Friday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts has seen 968 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Thursday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate remains at 1.4% after several increases over the past week.

Massachusetts had seen 986 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 144,895 with 19 more reported dead for a total of 9,608.

17,966 tests were performed on new individuals, over 2,200 less than yesterday’s report, to increase the amount of individuals tested to 2,595,974. The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 5,515,148.

The 3 day average of COVID-19 deaths increased to 17 from 16.

Hospitalizations have increased in 26 of the last 39 days and increased by 49 today to see the total rise to 570.

Westport and Somerset joined much of the Southcoast in the red in the weekly report.

Today the country saw the most reported COVID-19 cases in a day since July 24.
