Cranston, RI — Cranston Police arrested two individuals on Monday, following a traffic stop that resulted in the seizure of approximately 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine, several prescription medications, drug paraphernalia, a digital scale, and cash.
According to police, at approximately 4:45 p.m., a Patrol Officer was working a fixed traffic post in the area of Broad Street and Montgomery Avenue when he observed a gray Hyundai sedan traveling southbound on Broad Street. The vehicle subsequently turned onto Wentworth Avenue and into a driveway at 155 Wentworth Avenue, where the officer initiated a motor vehicle stop.
The operator was identified as 33-year-old Brandon Pierpont of Bellingham, Massachusetts. During the stop, the officer observed drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle. A records check also revealed that Pierpont had an active extradition warrant from Grafton County, New Hampshire, related to narcotics offenses, as well as an active Cranston warrant related to domestic violence offenses.
The passenger initially provided officers with a false name. Officers subsequently identified the passenger as 28-year-old Miguel Rodriguez of Cranston. A records check revealed an active warrant for Rodriguez out of the Woonsocket Police Department for domestic violence-related offenses.
Following the arrests, officers conducted a probable-cause search of the vehicle. The search resulted in the seizure of a black backpack containing approximately 30 grams of a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, a digital scale containing white powder residue, $90 in cash, and several pills. The pills were identified through their markings as five Lorazepam tablets, two Clonazepam tablets, and six Xanax tablets. Additional drug paraphernalia, including a methamphetamine pipe containing residue, was also recovered.
Pierpont was charged with:
- Domestic Violence – Breaking and Entering a Dwelling
- Manufacturing/Delivering/Possession with Intent to Manufacture or Deliver Schedule I/II Controlled Substances (Methamphetamine)
- Three counts of Possession of Schedule I-V Controlled Substances
- Domestic Violence – Simple Assault and/or Battery
- Domestic Violence – Disorderly Conduct
- Fugitive from Justice
Piermont was arraigned by a justice of the peace and transported to the Adult Correctional Institution Intake Center. He was also issued motor vehicle summonses for Driving with a Suspended/No License, Failure to Properly Signal a Turn, and No Seat Belt – Passenger 18 and Older.
Rodriguez was charged with Obstructing an Officer in the Execution of Duty and was also taken into custody on an active warrant from the Woonsocket Police Department. After arraignment at Cranston Police Headquarters, officers turned him over to the Woonsocket Police Department.
