Massachusetts active COVID-19 cases drop below 80,000, cases across Bristol County cities & towns drop
Massachusetts saw a decrease in active cases, hospitalizations, and positive test rate in Thursday’s COVID-19 report.
Massachusetts has seen 4,222 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Wednesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate saw yet another decrease to 4.44%. Today’s rate is the lowest it has been since the very end of November. The rate was also 3.3% on November 23rd.
Massachusetts had seen 3,022 more positive cases announced yesterday.
The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 488,861 with 44 more reported dead (43 confirmed, 1 probable) for a total of 14,348 (14,056 confirmed, 292 probable).
The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 13,309,441 after 116,963 new molecular tests.
The 7 day average of COVID-19 deaths is currently 44.
Estimated active cases decreased by over 2,600 to 78,171.
Hospitalizations have increased in 90 of the last 136 days and 65 of the last 95, but saw a decrease of 52 to see the total lower to 1,878. COVID-19 hospitalizations have continued to decrease as of late as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report
According to the January 28th report, Fall River has a 99.6 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (143.2 last week). New Bedford saw a decrease to 107.3 (was 133.3) and has the highest rate in Bristol County. Westport is also in the red at 63.5 (was 95.9), Swansea is at 86.0 and was 104.3 last week. Somerset also saw a decrease as they sit at 79.1 (was 93.7). Freetown decreased to 78.1 from 107.3. Dartmouth is currently at 68.0 after seeing 97.0 last week. Acushnet has the second highest rate in Bristol County at 105.3 (was 167.5).
Massachusetts residents subject to COVID-19 quarantine by current status up to January 28th
• Total of individuals subject to quarantine: 228,209
• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 205,464
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 22,745
Massachusetts Officials have now also issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on January 28th.

As of January 28th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 25,456,670 cases of COVID-19 with 427,626 reported deaths.
